Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie

During the Cold War, "Checkpoint C" or Checkpoint Charlie as it was called by the Western Allies was one of the crossing points of the Berlin Wall between East and West Germany.

Symbolically, Checkpoint Charlie represented the separation of east and west, and a gateway to freedom.

After the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc and the reunification of Germany, the building at Checkpoint Charlie became a tourist attraction.

Douglas had already been to Checkpoint Charlie and so he spent quite some time cleaning gum off his shoe.

The area attracts so many tourists that within the information panels is a "Beach Bar". These beach bars have sand and cabanas, but are located within the city (or even inside buildings).
