The German Parliament. What can be said? Not much.
The journey to Parliament was uneventful. Underground. Transfer. Underground. Walk.
The building was--nice?
The highlight of the trip?
As we approached the entrance to Parliament from the side, we discussed whether or not there would be tours of the Parliament available to the public. We passed a barricaded entrance behind which was a security guard. Douglas walked up and said, through the glass, "Are the tours in here?" The man raised his voice sharply, "Asodijndofinan". So Douglas spoke louder, assuming the man hadn't heard him, "ARE THE TOURS IN HERE?" The security guard barked back another incomprehensible retort. Douglas noticed a phone on his side of the glass, picked it up, and said "ARE.--". From behind the glass, it was as if a bomb had gone off. The security guard flipped out, and began yelling a slew of what I assume to be German obscenities. And Douglas, cool as always, simply put the phone back down and strolled out.
A couple minutes later I began to wonder if perhaps the man thought we were saying "Tor" the German word for "gate", since the Brandenburg Gate was only a block away. If he thought we were being jerks, I guess his reaction makes more sense.
Needless to say, while we did find the tour spot later on, at that point none of us were too keen on taking one.
