It may not be the best chocolatier in Germany, but it was certainly the most creative I'd seen thus far. Just around the corner from the Brandenburg Gate, a little chocolate shop caught our eye. Every confection looked delicious and was themed around Berlin.
The friendly shop clerk offered us samples, the three of us choosing a milk chocolate bark with nuts. Fantastic? Maybe not, but certainly the best free chocolate I've had in a while.
It may appear to be just an ordinary bottle of the local Berliner Kindl, but try and pop the top and you'd be in for a surprise--the bottle is made entirely of chocolate! There was discussion as to whether or not there was actually alcohol inside, but I'm fairly certain -unfortunately- that it is actually hollow. :(
The next piece of chocolate history led to a lot of debate. Who is that man immortalized in chocolate (at least until consumption)? If you answered George Washington (as Douglas did), you'd be wrong! What about Napoleon?Maybe the chocolate dame beside him is his beloved Josephine? That is what the store clerk initially said when we questioned him. This, though slightly more sensible that George Washington, would ALSO be wrong!
Eventually the store clerk went to the back, intent on finding the answer. He came back and confidently told us that the confectionary bust was actually of "Asdoinoin Roincldsknf". The three of us nodded and smiled thankfully, before walking away and admitting to one another that none of us had any idea what he said. Unfortunately, this was not the first or last time we would do the very same thing.
So who is it? I (now) know the answer. Any guesses? First one to get it right gets a prize.... (and by "prize" I mean bragging rights)
What chocolate store is complete without a set of white, milk, and dark chocolate Karl Marx?
There's a Karl Marx for everyone!
I almost bought one for Grandpa Venti, before I had a psychic vision of a puddle of chocolate Karl Marx in my suitcase.
And of course, a sweet snack to commemorate the greatest art ever to be created in Berlin--obviously, graffiti. Crime has never tasted so sweet......Actually, that is probably not true.
